New eras don't come about because of swords, they're created by the people who wield them.

Username: KenshiSeta
Anime: Rurouni Kenshin
Name: Aoshi Shinomori
Nickname: Aoshi-sama
Age: 26
Side: Oniwabanshu Ninja's former leader.
Abilities: Fighting Style: Kodachi Nitouryuu(nitou: two swords ryuu: style.)
RYUUSUI NO UGOKI(ryuu: flow sui: water ugo: motion/confusion) This is what's commonly known as the "waterflow technique". He somehow makes it seem like he's surrounding an opponent, so it's hard to tell where and when the strikes gonna come from.
GOKOU JUUJI(go: to give kou: hook, barb juuji: cross-shaped)
So this could be called the "cross-hook" or something. In this attack, Aoshi forms an "X" with his two blades and them kind of swings his arms out, slashing in an x-pattern.
ONMYOU HASSHI(on: yin myou: yang ha-: move/transfer shi: stop)
The "yin-yang exchange" is one way I've heard this translated. Here he basically throws both kodachi, one after the other, so that the first one shields the sight of the second one. He gives the first kodachi an extra 'kick' by punching its hilt forward with the tip of the second one.
ONMYOU KOUSA(Onmyou: yin-yang kou: mixed sa: divide ( like the fork in a road)
It's hard to tell exactly how this is different from the Gokou Juuji, but it seems that it is an x-shaped slashing motion where he slashes his arms IN across his front. ( As opposed to throwing his arms outwards to make the cross-slash? )
ONIWABANSHIKI KODACHI NITOURYUU OUGI: KAITEN KENBU ROKUREN(ougi: secret, mystery kai: revolving ten: heaven ken: sword bu: dance roku: six ren: joined Um..."revolving heavens sword dance of six joined slashes", or something along those lines. In this attack, his ultimate technique, Aoshi first flips his blades in his hands so they're pointed downwards, and then attacks, slashing six times rapidly with either the left hand or the right hand. As you can see, he can take down a tree with this attack. Don't get in the way of this one.
Sense kodachi's are basically used for defense, Aoshi likes to use Kenpo as well.
Weapons: Kodachi (two short swords) nitou: two swords ryuu: style.
Other: Used to be the Oniwabanshu Ninja's leader.
Relationship Status: Single
Family: None. Considers the Oniwaban Group his family.
Animal Companion: None
Physical Descriptions: Aoshi had two different looks. One without his coat and one with. I'm sure you can imagine him without the coat. His body is covered in scars from previous battles. Weight: 158lbs Height: 5'11". His eyes go from a blue to an eerie green color.

Personality: "I've thrown away everything. My friends, my respect, my whole life - everything for the title of the strongest." Now, that should tell you about him. Emotionless, cold-hearted, and mysterious in some sense. He's often described as a dark, depressing, gloomy, and obsessed man. His loyalty to the people who follow him knows no bounds, and once he sets his mind on a goal, practically nothing will keep him from achieving it. His a man of obsession for the first and is always trying to prove his strength. But what really drives Aoshi - as Kenshin realizes - is the need to escape his guilt over the deaths of his four men. He *feels* responsible for their deaths, (whether or not he actually IS) and this is such an intolerable situation for him that he willingly gives up everything else he stands for to avoid the truth, that they're dead and there was nothing he could do to stop it. The quiet, dedicated personality which had made him such a respected ninja leader now became warped and twisted into cold, single-minded obsessiveness. Aoshi became a 'shura' - a demon - and did his best to escape reality by dedicating his whole life to 'punish' Battousai and 'prove' the strength of the Oniwabanshuu.
Of course, once he had some sense beaten back into him, Aoshi -still- has lost his equilibrium, and sits in the temple meditating, trying to find some peace again. Of course, this was partially him trying to avoid facing the other Oniwabanshuu after all the evil he did as a 'shura.'
Background: Aoshi first makes his appearance in episode 11 of RK, where he is working for Takeda Kanryu and trying to retrieve the elusive Megumi. It turns out, however, that Aoshi's main goal was to fight Kenshin (as most of the villains want to do in the Tokyo Arc). After their battle, Kanryu brings out his Gatling gun and kills Aoshi's comrades -- Hyottoko, Beshimi, Hannya, and Shikijo. Aoshi blames Kenshin for their deaths, but nothing more becomes of this until the Kyoto Arc, when Kenshin ventures to Kyoto and meets Aoshi's groupie, Misao. The audience eventually learns that Aoshi was the okashira (leader) of the Oniwabanshu, a position he gained at the tender age of 15. His four companions were Oniwabanshu members who had followed him to Tokyo.
